Appendix D: Key Words
The following words are covered in the lesson and may be new to your students. Be sure to review these words and definitions as they appear in the lesson.
Characteristic: A feature or trait. In simplest terms, it is a word that describes what something is like.
Deforestation: The removal of trees from a large area.
Habitat: A place where an animal or plant lives. It has to provide everything an animal or plant needs to stay alive.
Physical Adaptation: Physical features that improve an animal's chance to survive and reproduce.
Preservation: The protection of a place or object from harm.
Survive: To stay alive.
