Deforestation
You have learned that all living things in the rainforest depend on each other. So what do you think would happen if the trees disappeared?
When many trees in one area die, it is called deforestation . That is happening in many parts of the rainforest.
Cutting down trees destroys plant and animal homes in the rainforest.
Sometimes, deforestation happens because trees don't get enough rain, or they are destroyed by fire or disease. Sometimes, people cause deforestation by cutting down trees for wood, or burning the forest so they can use the land for something else.
Unfortunately, when the rainforest is destroyed, the homes of the plants and animals that live there are destroyed, too.
